Olivier de Baillenx, directeur des relations institutionnelles d’Iliad, s’est exprimé sur le niveau de couverture FTTH actuel et à venir de Free dans la capitale. Ce dernier estime que Free a besoin de 60 NRO (noeuds de raccordement optique) pour assurer une bonne couverture. Il précise d’ailleurs à nos confrères de Silicon.fr : « A ce jour, 40 NRO ont déjà ouverts et équipés. D’ici 12 à 15 mois, 70% de la capitale sera couverte. En province, nous revendiquons 400000 prises raccordables ».

En revanche, Free ne fournit aucun chiffre sur le nombre d’abonnés FTTH qui ont déjà souscrit un abonnement Freebox Optique.

Pour la période 2008-2009, Free compte investir entre 300 et 400 millions d’euros. Cette somme sera prélevée directement sur le milliard que le FAI a annoncé consacrer d’ici 2012 au déploiement de la fibre optique jusqu’à l’abonné.

Orange et Neuf sont a priori actuellement en train d’investir autant de leur côté. Numericable, de son côté, a déjà investi largement depuis 2005-2006 pour moderniser son réseau et remplacer les câbles coaxiaux par de la fibre optique dans 70 villes.

Pas toujours ami-ami dans le secteur de l’ADSL, Free et Neuf se rejoignent sur le sujet de la mutualisation des réseaux. « Pour être efficace, il faut mutualiser le plus en amont possible des immeubles« , souligne Olivier de Baillenx pour Iliad. Arnaud Lucaussy, représentant Neuf Cegetel, poursuit en affirmant « Nous sommes prêts à ouvrir nos NRO de façon symétrique« .

Free et Neuf mettent d’ailleurs en doute la volonté d’Orange et de Numericable de jouer la transparence sur le déploiement de leurs réseaux FTTx et donc sur la possibilité pour d’autres opérateurs de profiter des infrastructures existantes.

En attendant que l’ARCEP tranche, Free met clairement en avant son volontarisme mais rappelle aussi qu’à défaut de consensus sur la fibre, le très haut débit sera confronté à 2 problèmes :

• un déploiement long et hétérogène mené parallèlement par plusieurs FAI
• une couverture uniquement focalisée sur les principales zones urbaines denses et rentables
